The Need from a Tragedy
The need to prioritize the word of God
Why another church? Sometimes we wonder that as we look at the area and see a plethora of churches. One thing that has
taken hold of us is for believers and churches to place the word of God as the highest prominent place again.
This has happened because of a lack of belief in the inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of Scripture. In essence, many believe the Bible is not the word of God anymore. Doubt has replaced trust.
We need to know that the Lord inspired His word and He promised and has the power to preserve His word.
Here is God’s promise to preserve His words.
“The words of the LORD are pure words: As silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” Psalm 12:6-7
Jesus Christ reiterated this fact and the promise of inspiration preserved .
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35
Peter, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit reiterated this fact of inspiration preserved as well.
“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
1 Peter 1:22-25 (Underlines added)
One of the biggest lies that Satan tries to get the church to believe is that “only the originals were inspired and
since we don’t have the originals, we have don’t have God’s word today.”
Does God Himself believe this is true. No! We just read from the Old Testament that His word is inspiration preserved. We read from Jesus Christ Himself that it is inspiration preserved. We also read from the apostle Peter that it is inspiration preserved. We have promises from the word of God itself that His word is inspiration preserved. We have the word of God!
The question is do we believe God or not? The implications to that question will impact your life more than anything else.
When Scripture and the word of God are used in the Bible - it always means His inspired word.
Here, in this next passage we see God refuting the argument of "only the originals are inspired. "
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:14-16
We have to know that Timothy was taught those Scriptures by his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5).
Therefore we have to come to terms with this fact- if 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture” is only talking about the originals - then the Scriptures he was taught from as a child must have been the same originals. It would mean that his grandmother and mother were the keepers of all the original writings of Moses, the psalmists, the prophets, the gospels, and the letters being written in the NT.
We know that isn’t the case.
What did they have that Paul called scriptures and is classified as the “All scripture is given by inspiration of God?”
They were faithful copies of Scripture. God is saying, as He does throughout Scripture, that it is “inspiration preserved.”
The word of God is plain about this.
Therefore, knowing this, we should love God’s word! The important thing to know is that
God cannot be separated from His word. To love God is to love God’s word and vice versa.
Believers in Christ should love God’s word.
In a home Bible study one time, there was a leader telling people
that some others put way too much emphasis in the word of God. He told them -
There were some new believers present, therefore I asked if we could look at what God says in His word about this.
Christ is the Living Word - capital “W” in Scripture.
The written word of God - lowercase “w” in Scripture.
We should love God’s word.
“And I will delight myself In thy commandments, which I have loved.”
Psalm 119:47
“Thy word is very pure: Therefore thy servant loveth it.”
Psalm 119:140
We should delight in God’s word.
“I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”
Psalm 119:16
We should hope in God’s word.
“My soul fainteth for thy salvation: But I hope in thy word.” Psalm 119:81
We should trust in God’s word.
“Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”
Proverbs 30:5
“In God I will praise his word, In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
Psalm 56:4
To worship God’s word is to worship God.
“My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; And I will meditate in thy statutes.”
Psalm 119:48
“In God I will praise his word, In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
Psalm 56:4
We don’t worship the leather, paper, and ink, but only God’s words. We can’t separate God from His word.
It would be like telling the love of your life, “I love you, but could care less about what you think, say, or write.
We should put as much emphasis on God’s word as He does.
We have to know that His name is high - there is no other name greater. (Read Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9-11)
Now look at this - (Read Psalm 138:2)
“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth:
For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” Psalm 138:2
God puts His word above His own name. For without His word, we know nothing about His name.
With looking at God’s word and what it says about itself, we can conclude that God’s word can
and should definitely be the highest prominent place in our lives. Without God’s word we know nothing
about Him, but with it we have everything God wants us to know.
We can have full assurance and belief in the inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of Scripture.
This is the need for In The Word Ministries and Church - getting others into the Word of God,
so that they can experiment salvation in Christ, and live in the victory that God has for them!
